Housing market recovery in the UK

Figures show housing market recovery is now stretching across much of the UK, with transactions in Edinburgh and nearby regions showing a 47 per cent rise in the final quarter of last year.

The sales surge was the highest seen since 2007 and was complemented by a 26.5 per increase in the number of homes coming to the market according to the Glasgow Solicitors Property Centre.

In Edinburgh prices rose by an average of five per cent in 2013 while nearby areas like East Lothian and Dunfermline showed smaller increases.

Some good signs that confidence may be returning to our biggest overseas buyers market, the UK

London home sellers flooded the market in January and pushed up asking prices in the biggest new-year increase since 2008, Rightmove PLC (Rmv).

Asking prices in the capital rose 3.6 percent from the previous month to an average 480,890 pounds ($764,000), the property website operator said in a report today. Prices rose 9.7 percent from a year earlier, the biggest annual increase since February 2010. Nationally, prices rose 0.2 percent.
