Property Description

Clifton Hall House is the Great House of Clifton Hall Plantation, which was first mentioned in historical terms in a mortgage, recorded in 1656.  St John's Parish Church is about half a mile from the house. 

The Great house was bulit of solid coral stone block and this was completed in about 1810.  The property is at about 800 feet above the East Coast and about 5 minutes drive down the hill to Bath Beach, a beautifil stretch of about half mile with very good swimming for most of the year.

There are constant Easterly breezes all year round and the house is cool every day of the year.  There is no need watsoever for air-conditioning.  Furthermore, one can sit outside any evening of the year and the only flying insects would be fireflies.

There are two fireplaces, one in the kitchen and one in the outside sitting room, which is used during the winter months.

The main house is two-storied with large rooms and high celings.  On the ground floor are the dining room, the living room and an office/study.  this is surrounded on three sides by and eight-foot wide gallery of marble tiles.  The oldest part of the house, parts of which are rubble stone, and may date from as far back as the 17th century include a large kitchen, a laundry room, one bathroom with a tub bath, a powder room, a room with an earthen floor and two old-fashioned brick bread ovens, the sitting room with the fireplace and two small rooms which are used for changing rooms for the pool.  There is also an area on the wastern side of the main building which is used as a bar and wisne storage room.

Upstairs is the master bedroom with dressing room and bathroom, five other bedrooms, one full bathroom and one with just toilet and hand basin, and one sitting/TV room.  There is also an attic for storage.

There are solar heating panels on the roof which ensure hot water for all purposes.  An electric heater for the few inclement weather days.

The outbuildings are comprised of three rooms, one of which is used for storage.  The second is used as a three-car garage, ante the third was used to stable horses, but is now usedfor minor agricultural activies.  There is a water storage tank, which collects water from the roofs for agricultural watering and is can hold about 45,000 gallons of water.

The swimming pool is 24' x 12' with an adhoining pump house.

There are two orchards where you can find grapefruit, oranges, limes, avocadoes, guavas, mangoes, breadnut, root ginger and haliconias growing.
