The cottage was originally the boiling house where the cane juice was boiled once it was feed through and squeezed at the nearby mill. When sugar was no longer produced at the site the boiling house was used as a yam house where the produce from the fields was stored and sold. In the late 1970's the yam house was then converted into a cottage which was then completely rebuilt some eight years ago.
